Aug. 18. The entire State of Oregon is being terrorised by the wild shooting and kidnapping escapades of three desperadoes. Their names are Thomas Murray ,Ellsworth Kelly and James Willos. All are convicted murderers and highwaymen. They escaped from the 'Sale penitentiary, after killing two of the warders, a fortnight ago. Since then hundreds of sheriffs and their deputies have been hunting them all over the State . The three bandits move here and there and steal money, ammunition and food. The latest exploit of the gang concerns four, friends who were playing cards in the village of Monitor at 2 a.m. on Monday. , The threo bandits entered and kidnapped the whole four of the men. They took them to two motor-cars and forced them to drive them toward Portland. Daylight found the captives and their captors close to the suburbs of the city. They approached a farmhouse and the bandits took possession of it. They compelled the farmer, Mr. Newman, and his family, as well as the four friends, to remain in the house all day. Late a' night the desperadoes took tho motor-cars and drove toward the city. Tho chief of tho band is Murray. He dictated a statement, in which he said ho regretted the murders he had committed, " so that my mother may know the truth." Murray left a fingerprint at the farmhouse so that the police would recognise it was genuine.
