FALLING BIRTH RATE.

ENGLAND AND WALES. FIGURES FOR JUNE QUARTER. (Received 5.5 p.m.) Reutcr. LONDON. Auk. 18. The total births in England and Wales in tho quarter ended Juno 50 were 187,000. This is equal to tho lowest birth-rate recorded in any second quarter except in the war years 1017-19. Tho births comprised 95,000 males and 91,000 females. Deaths in the period totalled 112,000. This is 0.1 per 1000 below the second quarter of last year. The deaths comprised 53,000 males and 54,000 females. Infant mortality was equal to 66 per 1000. This is equivalent to the lowest rate recorded in any second quarter.
