ANTARCTIC CONTINENT.

ADMINISTRATION QUESTION. « CLAIMS OF AUSTRALIA. A. and N.Z. ' MELBOURNE. July 4. A deputation from the Australian National Research Council waited on the Prime Minister, Mr. S. JL Bruce, and urged that the French claim to administer Adelie Land should be challenged. They asked that, the Australian claim to administer it should be formally established, and that international sanction should be sought for the administration by Australia of the whole or part of the Antarctic continent between the meridians 90 west and 160 east. Mr. Bruce, in reply, said the situation was occupying the close attention of the Ministry which had opened up negotiations with the British Government early in December. The question was necessarily very complicated and could not be settled immediately. The claim was still being strongly urged through tho proper channels.
