THE WELLINGTON MEETING.

REVIEW OF THE FIELDS. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] WELLINGTON, Saturday. The Wellington Racing Club will make a Btart with its winter meeting on Tuesday, and given fine weather Treniham should form tho scene of several highly interesting contests. If the Napier and Hawkc'a Bay meetings can bo taken as a guide, the hack steeplechasers seen out this season aro a poor lot. The acceptance for tho hack steeplechase at Trcntham on Tuesday is not strong, and some quarters tho race is regarded as a match between the Southern pair, Frenchman and Windermere. Followers of form cannot lot General Carrington go in tho Victoria Hack Hurdles, as ho has raced very consistently of late. With Koy Reed in the saddle, Passionate will have a big following in tho Members" Handicap, but the race will bo as much an ho can manage, Tho indications are that Omahu and Eerio will start favourites for the Wellington Steeplechase. The Stewards' Handicap looks to bo tho big puzzle for backers. Last year the winner, Rose of Athens, paid over half a century. Dubious is likely to bo sent out favourito for the Treiitham Hurdles, which is to bo run over a mile and three-quarters' course. The company is nothing like as strong aB ho will have to meet in the Winter Hurdles on the last day of tho meeting. By the time the To Aro Handicap, tho last race 011 Tuesday's card, is run the course will be cut up if tho present weather conditions continue, so it will be advisable to look for something that is good in bad ground. Income. Alaric and Passionate are the present fancies for the Members' Handicap. The probable riders in the Wellington Steeplechase will bo as follows:—Omahu, L. G. Morris; Eerie, S. Henderson; Peter Amans, S, Walls; Black Art, A. McDonald; Dick, P. Mcßrearty; San Fiprte, C. Mason; Tukia, H. McSwecncy; Fireblight. W. Bowden; Sir Wai, E. Corlett; First Line, J. Proctor; Luke, It. E. Thompson. Frenchman jumped well at Trentham this morning, and ought tc> be in the monoy on Tuesday. Madarino has done well on the tracks of late and will keep some of his opponents very busy. „ ,1 Yoma, who was unlucky m the J\orth ; will have a following in the Stewards Handicap. Nothing has been galloping better than Kuhio among tho local horses. Black Art gave a good exhibition of fast, clean jumping this morning, and thus increased in favour for tho Wellington Steeplechase. , „ Lucullent. thdugh lnzy, worked well on the track this morning. Ural la was sent over several hurdles with Lady Gay. but gave only a moderate exhibition of jumping, while Lady tray ran down the obstacles. Penury Rose is in the hurdle events at tho Wellington meeting with a very light weight, anil ought to be able to ei n Buine stake money. t Sir Wai gave a wretched exhibition ol fencing this morning when tried over the steeplechase course. Podokest and Nine of Spades will both carry a lot of money at the Wellington meeting if started here. General Carrington and Kendal, who are engaged ia the Hack Hurdles, galloped well here to-day, and Many Colours absolutely flow tho fonees when sent over a few of them. ~ , White Comet manages the heavy going well, and was responsible for Viry pleasing work this morning.
