THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. fBY TELEGRAPH. —OWM CORRESPONDENT.) OTOROHANGA. Friday. The rainfall for June totalled 7.88 in., the fall taking place on 10 days. The heaviest fall took place on June 24, when 2.14 in. fell Except for a week of frosty weather the month has generally been mild. The work of re-arranging the railway station yard is almost completed. A new line has been laid for extra shunting facilities, and the platform has been cut back, to accommodate the v line. The shingle works are arranging for their product to be dealt with outside the yard, a procedure that will relieve the present congestion. The annual meeting of toe Chamber of Commerce elected the following officers:— President, Mr. S. J. E. Closey; vicePresidents, Messrs; A. G. England and H. Maxwell; executive committee, Messrs. A. J. McCready, P. C. Faris and H, W. Atkinson. The president's report tduched on the steady progress made by the town, and the need for linking up the with roads. A propaganda committee was set up with the object of popularising Friday evening as tho late shopping night. The Railway Department is to be asked to put a carriage on the 9.30 p.m. train going south, and to stop the night expresses on request. Ca'binet has authorised a grant for the erection of two classrooms and a laboratory on the new school site. The committee was anxious to see five classrooms erected, but welcomes this as an instalment.

The report to the annual meeting of the Otorohanga Operatic Society stated that the taking of Turner's Hall and the purchase of a piano for rehearsals had facilitated the latter. "Tho Pirates of Penzance" was being"' rehearsed for production in September. The meeting elected the following officers:—President, Mr. F. Phillips; secretary, Mr. H. W. Atkinson; committee Mesdames 'Cooke and Bell, and Messrs. Brabant, Bedlington, Cooke, Patterson and C. Phillips; mistress of the wardrobe, Mrs. Atkinson.
