Mr. J. Lyons, Auckland district superintendent of agriculture, who has been appointed to the position of director of thjei live stock division of the department-', in Wellington, was the recipient yesterday of a presentation from the members pi the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association. i In making the presentation on behalf of the association the president, Mr. W. W. Massey, expressed deep regret at the departure of Mr. Lyons, whose advice had been of such great assistance to the members and to farmers throughout the province. Regret at Mr. Lyons* departure was tempered with gratification that his departure meant promotion. Other speakers expressed similar sentiments. Replying, Mr. Lvons said it was like pulling a tree up by thso roots to leave a district and friends with whom he hiid been associated for 24 years. The duty of the department was to the farmers and he had always endeavoured to live up to that ideal. His advice and assistance would always be at .the disposal of the association.
