Gangs of workmen ajo now clearing the wreckago from the streets of Santa Barbara. From the ruins of the Arlington, a leading hptel, a trunk was taken containing jewels valued at £30,000. The trunk had lain for two days near the body of Mrs. Perkins, widow of a former railway president, wlvo was one of tho victims of the. earthquake. All the western cities are hurrying relief no the stricken city. San Francisco has headed the list of subscriptions with £10,003. Architects are planning the reconstruction of tho city on Spanish lines, with no building higher than three storeys. No fire, pestilence nor looting followed tho disaster. The insurance adjusters appraiso tho damage at £6,000,000.
