Tho heavy rain and gal® last night in the Hutt Valley had left ita effect on the Trentharn course, which this morning was in a waterlogged condition. Thei work, despite the dismal conditions underfoot and driizly lain, was not uninteresting. Tho trial grass was available for fast work. Joybird and Bonny Dawn were first to appear, but they were given only pace work on the Band. Potoanui hit out well when sent for halfpace work on the sand. His stable mates. Glen Idle arid Highfiown, were allotted similar tasks, and Highllown was very ke«m to go on at a faster pace. , j Wench was Bent for a working gallop over six furlongs, but tho soft track was slowing her u» at the end. Waetea and Ardfinnan finished practically on terms at the end of five furlongs, in 1.11. tho last four taking 695. Arrow Boy was well clear of Gold Dollar at tho end of half a mile, in lm 1 2-Ss. Dick (C. Butler) and Maunga (H. Griffith) were together at tho end of a mile, which took 2m 10s. Bright Eyes was in front of Apacho at the completion of half a mile, which took lm. , Kuhio had to bo held back to Hyama and Mutu when galloping four furlongs in £0 4-Efi. Eonmark (A. McMullan) was schooled over three hurdles, afterwards doing pace work. He jumped well, Many Colours (P. Mcßrearty), Lucullent (N. Rowe). and Kendal (E. Stß.nway) were sent over three hurdles. Many Colours was inclined to ■ run about at his fences, and Kendal appeared to do best, and only with difficulty couid be pulled up. San Forte hit out freely enough whan doing pace work on the sand. He appears to make a noiw now. Black Art (H. Griffith), alone,, galloped a mile in 2m Bs, the first half taking lm 1 2-sb. Ho appeared to have had enough at the finish, but was not knocked about. # Peggy Ford sprinted down the straight, and Tinohari galloped threo furlongs in 44 i-ss. Lady Gay took lm 4s to cover half a mile, after going a similar dißtanco at a good pace. White Comet waß going much better than Heisler at tho ond of si* furlongs, which took lm 27s the first three being run Hi 31a - , < • Debate, alone, ran five furlongs in lm 15s, going well. , ■.
