KILLED ON RAILWAY.
FATE OF YARD FOREMAN. STRUCK BY POSTAL VAN. STEPPED BACK ON TO LINE. [by telegraph:.—press association.] ■WELLING TON. Sunday. Angus McDougall, aged about 45 years, a widower employed as yard foreman at the Thonidon railway station, was killed on the line at 12.15 p.m. on Saturday. The deceased was standing on the side of the line talking to the. enginedrivcr of a suburban train at the north end of the platform at Thorndon. He stepped back on to the main line, and was struck by a postal vanf which was in front of the engine. The van was being pushed down to join the Auckland train. Mr. McDougall was carried some distance, and when picked up was gravely injured. He died within a few minutes.
