EVENING FASHIONS.
No revolutionary change of line is noticeable (says the Paris correspondent of the London " Daily Mail ") in the latest evening gowns, except that there is an increased fullness at the hems. Ihe chief difference lies in the distinct changes in material for evening wear. The robe perlee is a " back number," the simple fourreau frock of lame-broche is worn only by a few women. A soft, heavy silk crept* in lovely rich colour ts the chosen fabric for late spring evening gowns; embroideries are more and more quaint and cubist—-copper, gold, and silver threads are woven' into circles, cubes, lozenges, and horizontal am l vertical bands. The decolleiage. in front, is very modest, often mounting to the shoulder-blades. The back view is quite another affair, being often extremely low, and cut in oval form rather than in the long \ . The best rnaisons have the good taste to fill partlv the open space with a wisp of silver gauze or flesh-pink net. There is also a regrettable tendency to cut the frock away under the arms almost to the waist. Hero again silver tissue works wonders. Some startling black-and-white dinner dresses have been worn at Monte Carlo restaurants. Numbers of women wear real flowers on their evening frocks. There are some extraordinary artificial " blooms " in vogue. Among these I have "seen a mammoth rose with thorny stems, composed of vivid green panne; a cluster of black waterlilies with diamond centres and scarlet kid leaves; a big loose bunch of anemones made of colored tinsel in the vivid natural shades. Dainty evening shoes are sewn all over with diamond sparks, and have nacre heels; real Cinderella slippers! Miniature Empire fans set with medallions of hand-painted gauze vio with the ultra-large feather fan—the loveliest of which i.> made of soft natural ostrich plumes (beige-brown tipped with white).
