EDUCATION EXPENDITURE.

A STRENUOUS PROTEST. ACCOUNTANCY EXAMINATIONS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —TOKSS ASSOCIATION.] CHIUSTCHURCH. Tuesday. When proposals for the appointment of extra moderators for the passing of papers for the accountants' examination were, considered by the University Senate, Sir Robert Stout strenuously protested against piling up expenditure. The Senate was heaping up wrath against the day of wrath, he. said. The country could not afford the huge expenditure upon education. The moderators were unnecessary. Mr. De La Marc agreed with the main contention of Sir Robert Stout that moderators wore unnecessary but in view of the fact that the country could spend so much on beer and horse racing it could afford to foot the bill on education. Sir Robert Stout: Because wo waste money on horse racing there is no reason why we should waste it on education. The Director of Education, Mr. J. Caughley, suggested that the examiner should be asked to certify that lie had personally worked out the papers and that they could be done in the time allowed. ' This would obviate the necessity of more moderators. Mr. Caughley's proposal was adopted.
