COAL FOR RAILWAYS.

INQUIRY BY THE BOARD. AUCKLAND SITTING TO-DAY. Tho board of inquiry into the use of New Zealand coals on railways arrived in Auckland yesterday, after having held a sitting at Hnntly. The board will hear evidence in Auckland to-day, at tho Chamber of Commerce, commencing at 10 o'clock. The members of the board are:—Messrs. F. W. Furkert, engineer-in-chief of the Public Works Department (chairman); Mr, R. P. Sims, acting-chief mechanical engineer of railways; Mr. P. H. Jenkinson, railway engineer-in-chief; Mr. W. McArlev, general secretary of the Engineers , Firemep, arid Cleaners' Association; Mr. T. ()• Bishop, secretary of the Mineownerc' Association; Mr. J. A. C. Bayne, chief inspector of coalmines i and Mr. Locke, miners' representative. The board will hear additional evidence at Whan gar ei on Saturday.
