STABLES NEAR SCHOOLS.
Sir, —In reference to "Action's" letter under the above heading, it is useless to appeal to the Minister for Health to compel alteration of the by-laws, I appealed to the Minister in reference to a stable that the Ellerslie Town Board allowed to be moved up to the boundary, right at the side of my house, and although the Health Department, after several inspections, asked the Town Board to have tho stable moved, they had no power to compel the Town Board to do this, and tho chairman was able to defy them. lhe Town Board have now altered the by-law, reducing the distance that must separate stables from neighbouring property 80 per cent. While local councils are allowed to do this, it is certain that waves of flyborne and rat-borne diseases must continue to take their toll. Ellerslie;'
