INCREASING THE OUTPUT. GREAT MILLS BEING BUILT. Australian and N.Z. Cablo Association, (Reed. 5.15 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 20. Tho owners of tho Messend iron and steel works in Lancashire are secretly constructing Europe's largest steel mill. It is to be 500 ft. long, and will cost £1,000,000. The new mill will have an outpnt of 5000 tons a week. This is expected to rehabilitate British supremacy in steel production. Tho secretary of tho Iron and Steel Trades Union, Mr. Pugh, asserts that the report published in tho Daily Express to the effect that the unions in that trade favoured the total, prohibition of imports which have been produced , under sweated labour conditions, is [ totalJx pafeJ&t •
