autumnus found dead. [BV TELEGEAPH. —OWN COBBESFONDENT. ] CHRISTCHURCH, Suturday. Sir George Clifford suffered a severe loss at the Stonyhurst stud this morning, when the stallion Autumnus wa3 found dead in his box Autumnus was foaled in 3909, being by Treadmill from Gold Leaf, by Stonyhurst from Gold Crest. He was a highclass racehorse, exceptional gameness being one of his great qualities. His successes included the Canterbury Champagne Stakes, C J.C Challenge Stakes (twice), McLean Stakes Manawatu Stakes (twice), Jackson Stakes and North Island Challenge Stakes. At the stud, with few mate 3 outside his owner's mares, he sired sonie good horses, Royal Stag. Moorfowl. Wild Hmd, Starmist. Footfall, Printerops, Owlscomb, Winning Hit, Top Score, being somo of his best. Another of his sons was Autumn, who had no racing credentials, but who sired Automne, an unbeaten two-year-old this season.
