MOTORIST SENT TO GAOL.
DRUNK IN CHARGE OF CAR. SEVEN DAYS' IMPRISONMENT. Seven days' imprisonment for being | drunk in charge of a motor-car in i Svmonds Street on Thursday was imposed on .Robert Griffiths, a married man, aged 54, wln> appeared in the Police Court yesterday, before, Mr. ,F. W. Poynton, S.M., and Messrs. J,. J. Pegler and ('. Norgrovc, J. P. s. _ The circumstances, as uiitlined hy Sergeant Kowcil. were that during a busy part of the day Griffiths drove a car up Khyliev Pass, steering a /.ig-zag course, and at the Symonds Street junction lie struck a cart. On pulling up he. was taken in charge. The car was not travelling fast. Accused, who pleaded guilty, said he was not a drinking man, and had had only two drinks, but lie had no dinner and the. drink acted quickly. He was very sorry, and in asking for a line, said he would not touch drink again. Jln had four children. The magistrate said lie would take the circumstances into consideration, but a fine could not be imposed.
