EXTENDING RIVER LIMITS.
POSITION AT MATI ATI A. j REQUEST TO THE MINISTER. A request that the Marine Department I should extend its river limits in the Hau- | raki l.'ulf as far as Matiatia, Waiheke, | was made by a deputation to the 'Minis- | tor for Marine, the Hon. (J. J. Anderson, J yesterday. In support of the request, it was stated I that boats had traded to the neighbourj hood for 30 years without accident. Adej quale wharfage facilities had been proi vided at Matiat.ia which was regarded as the best harbour on tho island. The | distance was only just over two miles from the present limit. On the south | side of the island, the boats were allowed | to go further. If the limit was extended. I a good boat would take up the running. | If the limits could not, be extended, it | was asked if some easing of the restricj tion on the number of passengers could i not bo made. The .Minister asked who would take the responsibility if there was an accident. It might be claimed there was a greater risk in running to Matiatia. He could not do anything without consulting the experts, but ho would go info the whole matter with them.
