arrival of competitors. COMMENCEMENT ON MONDAY. ■Arrangements in connect ion with (lie New Zealand band championship contests which are to commence a( Auckland or) Monday are almost finalised and all that is wanted now is fine weather. The Timaru Garrison Rand, under Bandmaster Sehnack, and the St. Ivilda Band of Dunedin arrived yesterday morning from the South. An informal function took place at the tea rooms of Messrs. Milne and Choyee yesterday morning when, at the invitation of Mr. Stuart Milne, the handsmen and their wives who had already assembled, together with officials, were entertained at morning tea. Members of the, Malvern Tramways Band from Victoria were among the guests. Mr. \ . IT. Potter, M.P.. who is a vice-president of the contest committee, welcomed the visitors and hoped that their stay in Auckland would lie an enjoyable one. Mr. oarson, manager of the Malvern Band, who replied on behalf of the visitors, made complimentary references to the manner in which they were being entertained and also to the excellence of the general arrangements. Bands expected at Auckland to-day comprise the Wanganui Harrison Band, Queen Alexandra's Own Regiment Baud from Wanganui, the Woolston Band from Christchurch, the Wellington Municipal Tramwavs Band. the. Port Nicholson Band from Wellington, the Oreymouth Band and the Tnvercargil! Garrison Band. On their arrival In- the limited this morning the Port: Nicholson Band will be met by the Malvern Tramways Band and played to their quarters in Symonds St reel. The programme, for Monday will be. as follows : Society of Arts Hall, 9 a.m.. Bh baritone solo; Town Hall concert chamber, 9 a.m., Kb cornet solo ; Town Hall, noon, civic reception by the. Mayor; Town Hall concert, chamber, 2 p.m.. trombone trios; Society of Arts Hall. 2 p.m.. flu gel horn solo; Domain, 6.50 p.m., A grade contest, tirst test.
