DO MINIONS AN D LEAGUE. USEFUL PART PLAYED. CONFERENCES AT GENEVA. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received 7.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z. LONDON Feb. 18. Viscount Cecil, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, has returned to London from the Opium Conference at. Geneva. In the course of an interview he said the conference had done work of the greatest importance to tho whole world, as no country was free from the menace of the drug habit arid all it entailed. Referring to his association at Geneva with the Australian delegate, Mr. Shepherd, Viscount Cecil said tho part played by the Dominions at the conference was a striking testimony to the value of their membership of the League of Nations. They were enabled to represent their views to the nations of the world, and to bring their own energy and knowledge into the common stock. Tho Dominions' membership of the League might be described as the hallmark of nationhood. It signalised the admission of tho Dominions into the family of nations. MANUFACTURE OF ARMS CONTROL BY GOVERNMENTS. LEAGUE APPROVES PRINCIPLE. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 7.5 P.m.) GENEVA. Feb. IS. The Armaments Commission of the League of Nations has approved the j principle that the manufacture of arms I and munitions should be under Government control. It has appointed a subcommittee to approach the various Governments on tho matter.
