CRUELTY TO A COW.
BEATEN WITH A SHOVEL. SHAREMILKER FINED £lO. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] TE AROHA. Wednesday. At the Magistrate's Court to-day, before Mr. Salmon, S.M., Harold Candy, sharemilker, was fined £lO, or in default two months' imprisonment, on a charge of ill-treating a cow. The evidence showed that because a cow was slow in moving into position in the bail, Candy struck her first on the rump with a long-handle shovel and then on the leg with the sharp blade of the shovel, severing the tendons of tho leg, A veterinary surgeon stated that the cow would always be lame. The magistrate said that the case was the worst, instance of cruelty that had ever come before the Court.
