HERNE BAY RATEPAYERS.
PROPOSED ASSOCIATION. The formation of a Ratepayers' Associ-< ation was proposed at a meeting of dents 1 in the Heme Bay Hail on Tuesday evening when it was decided .that a committee' be set up to further the, project. Mr. A. G. Jarrett, who presided, stated that an association could do valuable work in taking steps to prevent extravagant borrowing and in insisting on the city endowments being made revenue producing. It was suggested that a location other than the Market site could be found for the new Art Gallery and the site, instead of being used for a civic square, utilised for business blocks which would produce thousands of pounds annually in rent and rates. Messrs. J. A. 0. AJlnm and M. J. Bennett, members of the Auckland titv Council, who were present by invitation* answered a number of questions and finished the meeting with much inforn» ation on the policy of the City Council and the present municipal undertakings
