RUNNING OF THE TRAINS.

EXPRESSES FROM THE SOUTH.

LIMITED DUE ON TIME TO-DAY.

Owing to the slip on the Main Trunk line near Ngaio, Wellington, the service has been disorganised. Tho train that arrived at Auckland soon after three o'clock yesterday afternoon was gathered together at Johnsonville, and left Ngaio at 9.5 p.m. on Saturday for Auckland. Two trains were scheduled to leave Wellington on Saturday for Auckland, one at 12.45 p.m. and the other at 2 p.m. On account of the slip, however, this programme was abandoned. Passengers were motored from Wellington to Ngaio. to catch a special train that was timed to leave there at 8.45 p.m. It did not carrive at Ngaio from Johnsonville until 8.40 p.m., however, and finally got away at 9.5 p.m. The trip was uneventful.

Many of the passengers complained that insufficient notice was given concerning the change of programme, and it is stated that many who had booked passages were unaware that a train was leaving Ngaio. at all. Consequently it was by no means full when it left Ngaio.

The special holiday express from Palraerston North, which was due at 5.40 a.m. yesterday, did not arrive until 7.47 a.m. Two expresses were despatched from Auckland for Wellington at the usual times last evening, the railway officials at Auckland having no reason to believe that passengers would not reach "Wellington on time. It is expected that the limited from Wellington will reach Auckland to-day at 9.26 a.m. as usual. An extra express, which has been despatched from Wellington to cope with the delayed traffic, should arrive at Auckland at 2.55 p.m. today. Present arrangements are that, in addition to the south-bound trains leaving Auckland at 7.10 p.m. and 7.45 p.m., an extra express will bo despatched for Wellington at 1 p.m., commencing to-day. This train will run each day until, and including January 3, but excluding Christmas Day and Sunday, December 25.
