OBITUARY.
MR. THOMAS R. SPEER. The death has occurred suddenly of Mr. Thomas Robert Speer, an early settler of the Auckland district, at the age of 83 years. He had experienced failing health for the past 12 months, death occurring at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. H. , J. Scelly, Spencer Street, Remuera. Born in County Cavan, Ireland, 83 years ago last Wednesday ? Mr. Speer came to New Zealand approxamately 74 years ago and served with the 58th Regiment during the Maori wars. At the close of hostilities he settled down to farming at East Tamaki, and remained there until abont 20 years ago, when he took up residence n the city. He was a member of the King "i Empire Veterans. Mrs. Sfeer piececeased him by 15 months! He is survived by five sons and four daughters, all of whom are married, and 18 grandchildren. Thi sons are Mr. R. S. Speer, of Howick; Mr. J. B. Speer, of Dargaville; Mr. W. T. Sneer, of Mangere; and Messrs. T. R. and N. M. Speer, of Auckland. The daughters are Mrs. E. R. Lowe, of Napier;. Mrs. F. 0. Peat, of Dargaville; Mrs. H J. Scelly, of Auckland; and Mrs. W. L. Wright, of Hastings. V The interment will take place at Dargaville.
