FRENCH ELECTION FUNDS.
COMMISSION AND WITNESS.
piler PARIS. Dec. 17 A surprising incident occurred at the opening sitting of the. commission which has been appointed by the Chamber of Deouties to inquire into the sources of the pa,'t v funds employed in the election campaign in May, with -special reference to the* extent to which Moscow funds were utilised. The first witness was Senator Unlliet. of the Seine district, who is regaided as the political agent for the Union of Kconomic Interests. M. Brilliet refused to take the oath on the ground that if he did .so he would be compelled to give names of men who had given him money, or demanded it li oil) him. or who had received election fends. Thus he would risk legal
penalties. The cor.iniiss.iun, after unavailing pressure, decided to refer the point to the Minister for Justice, and adjourned their sitting.
