CATTLE TICK PEST.

NORTH AUCKLAND POSITION.

UNION COMPLAINT.

ALLEGATION OF LAXITY.

The opinion that csittle tick regulations were not being strictly obeyed in North Auckland was expressed by Mr. C. C. Munro, who presided at the meeting «l the provincial executive of the Auckland Farmers' Union last evening.

Mr. Munro said thousands of sheep were coming to Auckland from th». North badly infected with tick although accompanied by certificates stating they had been dipped. Investigation of the matter was needed. The sheep were cither being dipped in a weak solution or not at all. Cattle which had been at Papatoetoe only three days and then driven to Ptjkekoho were infested with large tick yet they had been certificated. . There were beef cattle at Westfield last week which had their ears full of tick. He move:! that a letter be sent to the department asking when and where these were dipped. Apparently all cattle from the north were affected and it seemed inspectors had no power in this district to prohibit the salo of animals so long as a certificate was produced. He had been told, and it was quite feasible too, that dipped cattle h».d picked up tick ou the road. The motion was seconded by Mr. Cf. S. B. Morrison, who said inspectors should see that the. dipping solution was kept at an effective strength, Mr J. Tre.win favoured the provision of a dip at Westneld. Mr. J. Garton said dipped cattle en route to Auckland were sometimes mixed with cattle brought from paddocks on. the way. A dip at "Westfield was the only prevention of the spread of the parasite in Auckland and dogs and horsos should also be treated.

Tito chairman pointed out that ho was not blamin; the northern inspectors. He thought the administration was lax. Tl o motion was carried.
