MANY OFFENCES IN VVJONTH.
VALUELESS CHEQUE ISSUED.
A scries of offences committed by "Walter Frank Goodall, aged 25 (Mr. Leahy), since his release from prison less than a month ago, were responsible for his appearance in the Police Court yesterday, before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., on charges of having obtained £15 by means of a valueless cheque, £10 by false pretences, and having incurred debts for £40 and £7 17s 6d for taxi hire and obtained credit for same by fraud. Acting-Detective McWhirter stated accused had made a comprehensive confession. Chief-Detective Cummings said Goodall had a list of five previous convictions for similar offences. He was released from gaol on November 11, and although he was in employment, he resumed his former criminal habits and issued a valueless cheque on' November 30. Counsel asked for leniency, on the ground that accused had been drinking heavily with a foimer prison associate. He had money adequate for his needs without resorting to fraud, and his father was anxious to keep him at work. Mr. Poynton: He is criminally inclined, and has all the instincts for preying on society. A sentence of three years' reformative detention was imposed.
