COTTAGE BURNED DOWN.
BOY ADMITS THE CHARGE.
INCIDENT NEAR PAPAKURA.
The burning of an unoccupied cottage on an island near Papakura resulted in a 16-year-old boy appearing in the Police Court yesterday before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., on a charge of having wilfully set fire to the cottage. A 13-year-old boy, a companion of accused, stated they both rowed out to the island. Witness accidentally knocked over a tin of oil in the cottage. His companion had cigarettes and matches, and he said, " What say I set fire to the place." Witness replied they would get into trouble, and went down to the boat. Eventually accused came to the boat and said he had set fire to the cottage. The boy's mental condition was said to be sub-normal, as ho had only passed the second standard.
Accused pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Bail was fixed at. £50.
