American motor car firms arc ready to erect factoiics for building cars in Australia if the .Yew Zealand market is open to them oil reasonable terms. It was suggested that the Australian market alone would not be big enough, but if New Zealand would lower the duty 011 cms from Australia the industry might well be established in Australia. Ford representatives confirmed the statement that, following his policy in America, where assembling plants are dotted all over 'the country. Mr. Henry Ford will erect five such plants in the Commonwealth. Tile heads of other motor firms assured Mr. Elder that, even should the actual manufacturing of motor-cars not be undertaken in Australia, assembling plants might be expected to multiply 011 a large scale.
