PORT RETURNS INCREASE.

LARGER SHIPS ARRIVE.

Many matters of of routine administration were dealt with by the Auckland Harbour Board at its ordinary meeting yesterday afternoon. The chairman, .Mr. H. R. Mackenzie, presided.

The harbourmaster, Captain H. H. Serjeant, reported that 788 vessels, aggregating 359,749 tons gross, arrived in Auckland during November, representing a decrease of one vessel, but on increase of 47,374 gross tons, compared with the corresponding month last year. Departures ' total! Ed 782 vessels, aggregating 321,474 gross tons. Forty-one vessels engaged the services of pilots. Nino vessels went to Calliope Dock for 20 days. The arrivals at Onehnnga last month consisted of 31 vessels (14,156 gross tons) as compared with 28 vessels (17,371 gross tons) during November, 1923. Thirty vessels (13,332 tons) departed.

The treasurer, Mr. H. B. Burnett, reported that the total receipts from ordinary sources of revenue for the 11 months ended November 30, amounted, in respect of the Waitemata Harbour, to £304,946, which was £35,116 better than those of the corresponding period last year, although £8695 below the estimates. The receipts from the Manukau Harbour for the 11 months totalled £5438, an increase of £1138 as compared with the corresponding period in 1923, and £947 above the estimated receipts. It was mentioned by the chairman, in reply to a question, that the revenue lost month showed a, slight falling-off (£467), but the receipts so far this month were very good. A letter was received from 92 residents of Orakei stating that owing to the ferry service to Orakei having been discontinued, the residents were now isolated, and asking- if the board could assist m negotiating for a launch service between the city and Orakei in the mornings and evenings. The letter was received. It was decided to draw the attention of the Marine Customs, and Health Departments to the practice of oversea ships with small cargocs anchoring outside tho harbour limits to discharge their cargoes. After hearing the opinion of the board's solicitors it was decided not to let tho old dock site for temporary occupancy.
