AN ASSOCIATION FORMED. 11 ERECTION OF GALLERIES. Art throughout the Dominion should receive considerable stimulus from the recent formation of tho National Art Association of New Zealand. The promoters of tho association state the birth of tho organisation came as tho result of tho realisation that many committees outside of the four centres were at present out of reach and without opportunity of becoming acquainted with the good things of art. These isolated places would be the principal objective of the association, which would seek local co-operation in ■organising exhibitions of paintings and other works of art on a scalo suited to the available accommodation of each neighbourhood, and as simply and economically as possible. The association intends to do more than organise exhibitions. Its objects ,-jre:— To stimulate a greater interest in the fine arts of painting, sculpture, etching, drawing, and in design and art craftsmanship, by means of exhibitions, lectures and the publication of a journal devoted entirely to the furtherance of art and artistic endeavour in the community, whether it bo in the form of art in tho nome, the place of business or in public institutions. To encourage the frequent exhibition throughout the Dominion of tne work of New Zealand artists. To advocate the erection of a public art gallery m every town large enough to maintain one. jo foster national sentiment, with regard to the fine arts, to tho end that a. Dominion national gallery may he ' erected. To stimulate a sustained interest in town-planning and town-beautifying. To encourage in technical colleges and schools of art a closer study of New Zealand fauna and flora, so that in arts and crafts workdone in the home or for sale, and in the designs prepared for manufacturers and ail industrial purposes, an artistic character, distinctive of New Zealaud. may be given. To do all things right and proper for the. advancement of art in New Zealand.

Tho subscription for artist, members is 10s. and for subscribing members 20s, and applications for membership should be made ':o the lion, secretary, Mr. J. McDen alc , Dominion Museum, Wellington.
