INQUIRY INTO STRIKE.

.An unexpected development occurred at. to-day's sitting of the Royal Commission which is inquiring into the circumstances of ■ t.he police strike. The chairman, Mr. McNash, announced that a fresh commission had been received limiting the scope of the inquiry to the general efficiency and conditions of the force bofore the strike, the causes which moved the men to refuse duty and the consequences which aror-e.
The matters which have been removed from the scope of the inquiry are the Present state of the force and the necessity, if any, for better police protection throughout Victoria.
This is regarded as an intimation from the new Ministry that it wishes the inquiry to end as soon as possible.
