WHANGAKEI. Monday.
A man named Stewart Christie pleaded guilty at tho Whangarei Court to-day to a charge of having obtained £3 from the post oflico in Auckland by signing " J. Christie " to a receipt fo? a money order telegram. Detective Do NorviJJo said accused had made a statement to the affect that in August last ho telegraphed to his brother in Whangarei for money. He had made various calls at tho money order office in Auckland to see if it had arrived and on tho last occasion he was informed that there was a telegram for J. Christie. Accused remarked that it must be for him and signed for it as J. Christie. The facts in connection with the telegram were, however, that a Mrs Christie, of Hikurangi, had telegraphed her son, J. Christie, £3, and the latter, not having received it, led to inquiries being made and the arrest of the accused. Christie, who had been released from gaol in July last, was sentenced to three months' hard labour.
