STEAMERS TO DOMINION.
MONTHLY TIME-TABLE.
A strong bid 1.0 secure the bulk of the carrying trade between Canada and New Zealand is being made by the Canadian Government, and for that purpose a direct service is being inaugurated between the two countries.
The Canadian Government merchant marine is now running a service from Montreal to New Zealand and Australia. In future the steamers will not proceed to Australia, but will discharge and load in the Dominion only. At present the only inward port of call is Auckland, and cargo for New Zealand is all landed at this port. Under tho new itinerary the steamers will extend their operations to tho four chief New Zealand ports, and will also call at other ports when required. The direct, service will be a monthly one, and the first steamer to take up tho new time-table will bo despatched from Halifax on January 25.
