SALE OF DISINFECTANTS.
USE OF MEDICINE BOTTLES
MANUFACTURERS AT COURT.
The use of a patent medicine, bottle, as a container for disinfectant resulted in the Ellis Manufacturing Company (Mr. Richmond) being prosecuted at the Police Court before Mr. J. W. Poynfon, S.M., yesterday upon a charge of having packed " Carbogen " disinfectant in a bottle labelled in a manner which may mislead purchasers.
Sergeant Rowell produced a bottle bearing the embossed inscription " California Fig Syrup." It contained " Carbogen " and Ijore the. Ellis Manufacturing Company's paper label to this effect.
Mr. Richmond submitted that an offence had not been committed since the provisions of the Food and Drugs Act did not extend to disinfectant. He also contended that the paper, label was placed so as to conceal the embossed lettering and thus prevent any niistFke regarding the contents of the. bottle.
The magistrate reserved decision.
