NOTIFIABLE DISEASE.

A DOCTOR'S REMISSNESS.

FINE OF £5 IMPOSED.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN COIUIESTOXDENT.]

HAMILTON. Friday.

Attention was drawn to the obligation cast by the Health Act on medical practitioners to notify infectious diseases, by a case heard before Mr. 11. A. Young, S.M., in the Hamilton Magistrate's Court this morning, when Dr. Douglas Martin, of Ngaruawahia, was prosecuted for failing to comply with the Act. Mr. Gillies, for the Crown, said defendant had attended a case which had hec-x diagnosed as septicaemia, and he had failed to notify the case to the Health Department. Mr. MacDiarmid, on behalf of defendant, pleaded guilty. Ho said his client had at first regarded the case as pneumonia. It was not until later that septicaemia was found to be the cause of the patient's illness. Defendant had been much worried on account of a fatal Viotor accident, in which he was concerned. The magistrate imposed a fine of £5, with costs, totalling £3 10s.
