ARMISTICE DAY.
THE SIXTH ANNIVERSARY.
TWO MINUTES OF SILENCE.
Armistice day will be observed tomorrow, in the manner prescribed by His Majesty the King, by two minutes' silence at 11 a.m. The tramways and other city services will be suspended accordingly, and it is requested that all traffic, pedestrian and wheeled, come to a standstill accordingly.
The simple but impressive conception for the commemoration of Armistice Day has been hallowed by associations of five similar occasions. For a moment the busy life of the world pauses, memory goes winging back to the terrible war years, their sacrifice and loss; there is a silent tryst with the beloved dead. Then regrets are banished, the busy day is resumed with thankfulness for the life that so many died to make free and honourable. On November 11, 1918, the carnival of death was concluded by the armistico, signed by Marshal Foch. It is gratitude for that deliverance that will inspire due observance of the day in Auckland tomorrow.
