EXPENDING WAR FUNDS.

A "NIGGARDLY POLICY."

[BY TELEGRAPH. —SPECIAL REPOP.TEB.] WELLINGTON. Friday.

The Hon. T. W. Hislop expressed his opinion in the Legislative Council yesterday on the past administration of New Zealand war funds. The giving out of war funds, ho said, had been somewhat niggardly, and he hoped that in future it would be on more liberal lines than had been tho case in the past. The expenditure of a certain fund in the past year had been £5000 less than the income, and yet everv day men were seen walking about in abject poverty. The money ought to be spent, principal and interest, having due regard to the future for thoso who fought in the war. He hoped those in authority would see that the funds were administered with a much more lavish hand than had been used in the past.
