MT. ROSKLLL ROAD BOARD.
QUESTION OF MAIN HIGHWAY
The Mount Eoskill Boad Board met last evening, when there were present the chairman, Mr. G. E. Tansley, and Messrs. E. J. Herd, J. H. Cooper, E. Brewer, S. M. Farrelly, S. Scarborough, and J. J. Preston. Mr. 0. O. Moffatt and five other residents in Lovers' Lane asked the board to change the name of the street to any one of the following: Dominion Terrace, Parau Street, or Roskill Avenue. Mr. Moffatt stated that Parau was the name of the Maori chief governing tho West Coast tribes of the North Island, and the board selected that name. The Main Highways Board wrote stating that it is unable to declare Mount Albert Road a main highway. The chairman stated that this road was undoubtedly a main thorouglifare. and a tally would show that the bulk of the traffic was not local. It was decided to invite the co-operation of the Mount Albert Borough Council in asking the Main Highways Board to reconsider the position. Mr. H. V. Bond was appointed clerk of works and acting-engineer to tho board, the duties to commence in a month. It was deoided to clean out and deepen the soak hole in front of Mr. G. White's ! property in Orakau Road. Mr. Hunt offered "to contribute toward a stormwater pipe in Pah Road, and the board decided to instal this after taking the levels. ■ The superintendent oJ! the State Advances Department forwarded tho consent of the Governor-General to the raising of a loan of £1250 for laying a water, main in Mount Albert Road. In connection with the application of the Onehunga Borough Council for half the cost of the removal expenses and a new site for the Seddon Memorial Statue, it was decided to defer replying until a site was suggested and an estimate of the cost of removal obtained. Some of the members questioned the wisdom of moving the statue, for before long it would only have to be replaced by a safety zone, on account of the heavy tram Improvements have been effected in the Three Kings Road. . The road has been scarified 12ft. wide, given a coat of scoria, blinded and well rolled, from Landscape Road to Mount Albert Road, a distance of approximately 70 chains. Thus there is now a good road in continuation of Mount Eden Road to Mount Albert Road. Other repairs recently effected included. May Road, Buckland Road, Liverpool Street, Carr Road, Ridge Road and Halsey Drive. The chairman expressed the opinion that the roads in the district had been brought into a good state of repair, and thny would compare very well with those of any neighbouring local body.
