STREETS AND BUILDINGS.

The Mount Albert , Borough , . Council met ''last evening, the Mayor, Mr. L. E. Rhodes, presiding. : There > were also present Messrs. R. J. AJlingham, R. H. Armstrong, B. Brighjim, E. S. Inwood, R. E. N. Matthews, H. A. Miles J D Murray, and L. F, Simmons. N ' A deputation of ratepayers from Lloyd Avenue East was informed • that the taatter of improvements to the thoroughfare would be referred to the ' Works Committee for consideration. The Edendale School Committee wrote drawing attention to the danger to school . children in Paterson Street, . at the junction of Arabi Street, owing to the corner being abrupt, and asking that the footpath on the south side be continued to the end of the street. The matter was referred to the Works Committee.

The Department of Agriculture notified the appointment of Mr. L. Dodds as inspector of noxious weeds. : The building inspector reported that for the three weeks ended April 30 46 permits, valued at £17,387, had been issued. These included 22 for dwellings, £16,911. The previpus report for the three weeks to April 9 recorded 40 permits, valued at- £17,133, including 22 for dwellings. ' 1 ; The sanitary inspector reported that the sanitary condition of the borough was fairly goou. The consulting engineer reported that the Reimers Avenue sewerage area had been reticulated. ■=

Considerable discussion arose as the outcome of a complaint by a number of residents of Duncan Avenue regarding a house which had been brought from Newmarket and. Was in course of erection at Mount Albert.; The building inspector reported that, through some misunderstanding': between the owner and the builders, the whole building had been brought to Mount Albert and most of it re-erected before he was able to visit it. He had condemned certain portions. It was resolved that further. erection of the building be held up 'until inspection had been made by a sub-committee ■ -
