FAIRLY GOOD CONDITION. AUCKLAND TO HAMILTON. The Great SoutfTßoact between luck- ?S land and Hamilton was reported yester- '■] day to be in fairly good condition. A;: motor-car, which left Auckland at 10 : o'clock yesterday morning with a- fall;N' complement of passengers, arrived.- at.' Hamilton at 3.30 p.m. The car reached f; Mercer at 11.30 a.m., and crossed the '■£ Rangiriri hills in one and a-quarter hours, ,'■# chains being used on both rear and front \ wheels. A large char-a-banc crossed the;?' ; ; hills in two hours. It is stated that a number of motorcars got into difficulties on this section id". the route on Saturday night. This was '■,'. probably' due to the motorists being unable; !;. to avoid the ruts, as is possible in the day- >: time.
