ROWING.
ST. GEORGE'S CLUB.
The double sculling event for the trophy presented by the commodore. Mr. H. O. Tewsley. was competed for by St. George's Rowing Club on Saturday. Nine crews entered. The water was pood until late in the afternoon, when a beam chop inconvenienced the rowers. In the semi-final. R. Walker and V. Dunne were beaten by N- Butchart and V. Hantreaves. The final, whirh proved the hardest and most evenly contested race of the day, was between D. Hume and F. Barry and N. Butchart and V. HaTereaves. A pood start was effected and for the first part of the course it looked as if Butchart would 'vin, but a determined spurt by ffnme brought the crews together again. From then on the crews raced etrolce for stroke, Hume forrin?: ahead by inches only Fro™ Point Resolution to the finishing line the race resolved itself into a grim fi-cbi, tor supremacy, Hume- eventually gaining the verdict by a canvas. The commodore was an interested spectator of the racing. The Rev. '-. R. J. Coats, vice-commodore, acted as judge. The remaining cl"b events to be decided are:— Oliver Scott Memorial pair-oar rnofi, for first-year members: the Gore Gillon Cu",. for style, first-year members; and the Thomas pair-oar race, a challenge race, the present holders being K, Page and D. Hume. . ■
