PAPAKUKA AFFAIRS.
TOWN BOARD MEETING. (ill TKLEG&APH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PAPAKTJBA, Tuesday. The Papakura Town Board met on Monday evening. There were present Messrs. D. Weir (chairman), Bates, Nicholson, Young and the Rev. W. C. Wood. It was agreed to co-operate with the Franklin County Council in taking steps to regulate heavy winter traffic. A request from the Railway Department to reconsider the proposed charges for water laid on to railway cottages was referred to the finance committee. The Great South Road Association wrote urging the board to raise a loan for the reconstruction of the road, also to decide whether it favoured construction in concrete or bitumen. On Mr. Wood's motion it was resolved to recommend to the Highways Board that the Great South Road through Papakura be constructed in bitumen; that authority be asked to raise a loan equal to half the cost; and that a meeting of ratepayers be called to consider the proposal.
