In the House of Representatives, Dr. Elarle Page, Federal Treasurer, stated that subscriptions to the Commonwealth conversion loan amounted to £11,209.098. The loan was not yet closed, but the figures he had quoted could be considered as final.

UNDERWRITTEN IN LONDON. •'Received 5.5 p.m.) Renter. LONDON. April, 4. The Queensland short-dated loan of £12,750,000 has been underwritten. It is at 5i per cent., and will be issued at 99£. . The Financial Times,, in an editorial congratulating Queensland and London on the prompt burying of the hatchet refers to the probability of a fall of interest rates in a few years. It expresses the opinion that Queensland is wise to bind herself to the present rate for a short period only, and anticipates that when the new loan matures -Queensland will be able to reborrow on easier terms.
