MISSING PAYMASTER.

U.S. NAVAL FUNDS STOLEN. \ A. 4ind N.Z. NEW YORK. April 4 Mrs. Ervirie Brown, wife of the naval assistant-paymaster , who allegedly absconded with 120,000 dollars, to-day returned 76,000 dollars of the amount to the naval authorities at San Diego, California. Mrs. " Brown explained that she met her husband on Tuesday in Los Angeles, where he went after deserting from his ship, which had been participating in the Caribbean manoeuvres. She said she pleaded with her husband to surrender himself. When he refused she secretly took a satchel containing the money, bringing it by motor' to the authorities, who believed the husband spent the balance of the money. He has not yet been apprehended.
