THE FOOTBALL IMPASSE.
CHRISTCHURCH MARIST CLUB AFFILIATION CANCELLED. [BY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH. Sunday. Last evening the .curtain was rung down on what has been one of the most unfortunate and regettable episodes in the history of Canterbury Sport. At the special meeting of delegates convened by the Canterbury Rugby Union, to which the Marists' Club had declined to send representatives, the action of the Management Committee in dealing with the case were unanimously endorsed, and further, by a three to one majority, it was decided to cancel the affiliation of the Marist Club to the Rugby Union. In effect this means that the Marist Club ceases to exist, officially, so far as Rugby football in Canterbury is concerned. Dealing with the Marists' statement, Mr. S. F. Wilson, chairman of the Canterbury Rugby Union, who presided, said: We are appointed to conduct the games, £nd the Marists' refusal to play against Otago University for the Payne trophy was tantamount to a strike. I contend we were perfectly justified in suspending the Marist Club under our rules. Our duty is to govern and penalise if the rules are not adhered to.
