ONGARUE TRAIN DISASTER.
RECOVERY OF FIREMAN.
DISCHARGED FROM HOSPITAL.
The railway disaster at Ongarue on July 6 of last year is recalled by the discharge yesterday from the Auckland Hospital of. Mr. W. Campbell, the fireman of the ill-fated Main Trunk express, Mr,. Campbell was seriously injured by being jammed against the bank of the cutting in which the,accident occurred. In addition, he was severely scalded by escaping steam. He was pluckily rescued by the driver of the train, Mr. A. - Stewart, and a passenger. After lying for some months in the Taumarunui Hospital, he was, in. company with a severely injured passenger, Mr- C. McFarlane, brought to the Auckland Hospital early in September. Mr. Campbell has lost the sight of one eye. Mr. McFarlane, who was badly crushed!, and had all his limbs fractured in the accident, was discharged from the hospital shortly before Christmas.
