EASTERN ISLAND TRADE
STEAMER NGAKUTA TO RUN. LARGER THAN THE FLORA. FIRST TRIP NEXT MONTH. The steamer Ngakuta is to be commissioned in the cargo trade between Auckland and the Eastern Pacific Islands, and will commence running next month. If found suitable, the Ngakuta will be retained in the trade in place of the Flora, which has been withdrawn permanently. In . September last the Flora was replaced temporarily by the Wanaka, which continued in the trade until the end of the fruit season. The Ngakuta is owned by the Blackball Coal Company, but she has been running for some months under the Union Company's flag. She is of 1775 ; tons, nearly 500 tons more than the Flora. The Ngakuta is due at Auckland from the South on April 3, and is scheduled to sail for the Eastern Pacific Islands five days late;". Her first island port of call will' be Mangaia, and she will then visit Rarotonga and Aitutaki, returning later to Rarotoaga and Mangaia to load a cargo of fruit for New Zealand. She will be due back at Auckland about April 26.
