THE DOMINION FEDERATION. INTERESTS OF ■" THE TRADE The annual conference of the New Zealand Federation of Drapers and Clothiers was opened in the Chamber of Commerce yesterday. The president, Mr. J. Tait, of Dunedin, was in the chair. Delegates were present from all parts of the Dominion. The delegates were , welcomed to the conference on behalf of the Auckland Association by the local president,. Mr. J. R. Rendell The address of the Dominion president referred to the operations of the year, and emphasised the importance of the work before the conference. It was decided that the _ federation should make overtures to allied traders and other retailers with a view to the creation of a Dominion executive representing all retail distributors. ■ _ On a Wanganui motion it was decided to take steps to stop wholesale j houses supplying ''mushroom businesses." commonly known as sample rooms, with goods, as such businesses, working on a small margin of profit, and selling to the public in some instances at less to an cost, were deemed to be a menace to the trade. It was also decided to seek a strengthening of the law and municipal regulations against itinerant sellers and auctioneers. A standard of practice of the trade was adopted. , Art Auckland remit was passed urging that. donations to civic, national, and philanthropic' objects, to an amount not exceeding 15 per .cent, of the taxpayer s net income, should be a deduction from taxable income. The conference delegates werd entertained at afternoon tfcea at the J.C.L. tea rooms by the wives of members. A smoke concert was held in the evening. The conference will resume this morning.
