CHARGE AGAINST JOCKEY.
BAD LANGUAGE ALLEGED. JUSTICES DISMISS CASE. I"BY TELEGRAPH.—-0 CORRESPONDENT.] ' TE ABOEA, Tuesday. Before justices of the at the Te Aroha Police Court to-day there was heard the case in which Les. Boles, clothier, of Te Aroha, laid an information against Leonard Manson, jockey, of Auckland, for allegedly using obscene language in a ? public place in Te Aroha on Thursday evening last. Constable Monson conducted the case for the prosecution, and Mr. Gillies, of Auckland appeared for , the accused.
_ Boles stated that while •on his way home from business he happened to pass Manson, who, with three others, was standing on the street, and Manson remarked to complainant: "You got me disqualified at Whangarei for three monthsj now how do you like 'being out yourself?" Boles replied: "Come to my shop and I will tell you." Following this, the accused was alleged to have used obscene language to Boles. M. Begovich and W. J. Moore gave evidence in support of the prosecution. The case for the defence was a denial that any obscene language had been used. R. E. Manson, C. Hodder, and W. H. Long'gave evidence in support of defendant. ,In summing up, the Bench " said that although the defence had failed to disprove the evidence given by witnesses for the prosecution, they would dismiss the case, realising that if conviction was entered- against Manson it might cause his disqualification by. the racing'- authorities and consequently deprive the boy of his livelihood. They, however, hoped that the accused would take a lesson from the proceedings.
