TREATING WRINKLES.

The woman whoso morning scrutiny in Her njirror reveals the fact that numerous little, fine, -«<ze-revcaling lines are making their appearance round her eyes and mouth will be -wise to take immediate steps to arrest them, for, ' once formed, much time and trouble will bo required permanently to remove them. A celebrated French beauty, who at the age of nearly 60 possessed a skin as soft and smooth as a girl in her teens attributed it to the regular bathing of her face with a preparation which she called "the water of youth."

This lotion, which she always prepared herself, was made by simmering 4oz. of pearl barley in a pint of rose water until all the gluten was extracted from the barley. The mixture was then ; passed through fine muslin > and a ' drachm •of simple tincture of benzoin added, drop by drop, the whole being well shaken together. This lotion she applied to her face every night, rubbing it gently into the 'skin," especially around her eyes and mouth, and allowing it to remain on all night., In the morning the skin was sponged with distilled water, to which a few* drops of benzoin had been added, 'and cleansed with, a little almond meal. Y To sooth her nerves at night and; secure the unbroken rest which this wise woman considered < was 4 essential to - the » preserva-■ tion of a - youthful appearance, she never failed to take' a ; cup A of> camomile tea every night, sipping' it slowly after she had retired to bed. Believing firmly that diet has a great influence on the complexion, she partook largely of salads, and a plate of radishes was always served at her'dejeuner.

Few women realise that- radishes are wonderful "wrinkle removers, especially ■when taken regularly for breakfast,. Properly masticated, so that ; they are thoroughly digested, they form one of the greatest beauty foods, preventing and removing wrinkles, while for those who are troubled •; 'with a' "liver" and possess a dull, heavy-looking skin, a raw tomato should always be included in the menu for breakfast. ;
